History & Mission
Formed in 1988, and reborn in 2010, The Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) is a thriving non-profit organization dedicated to the stewardship of sustainable, multiple-use trails and preservation of access for mountain biking in the Lake Tahoe Basin through advocacy, education and promotion of responsible trail use. Our organization’s growth, coupled with significant trail building opportunities, has created a need for an Executive Director.

Executive Director Core Purpose
Responsibility for day-to-day operations, overall financial health, and productive relationships with partners and the local community . In particular, the Executive Director will provide the necessary leadership to implement TAMBA’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan.

Fulfilling this purpose will include:
Operations & Staffing Management

  • Create effective collaboration between TAMBA staff, Board of Directors (BoD), Advisory Board, and volunteers using a broad range of tools
  • Maintain productive relationships with land managers, other associations, funding partners, and other relevant entities.
  • Hire & manage employees in compliance with state laws and TAMBA policies
  • Oversee and grow TAMBA community and volunteer events around Lake Tahoe
  • Ensure safe and legal operations within TAMBA

Financial Management

  • Create annual Budget with finance committee and BoD approval, and ensure budget is used effectively as a financial health tool as expenses or revenues evolve
  • In partnership with BoD, develop & implement effective fundraising strategies
  • Identify and apply for Grants, and regularly monitor project progress to ensure compliance with specific grants

Communications and Community Outreach

  • Be the primary representative and storyteller for TAMBA
  • Work within TAMBA and with partners to create content for projects, events, accomplishments, and news
  • Communicate this content by using or managing channels effectively — social media, live events, newsletters, press, community & business relationships

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership and management skills from 5+ years of professional experience
  • Proven organizational, planning, and communication skills
    Financial management experience with ability to effectively manage budgets
  • Experience with employee management and Human Resources
  • Project management experience
  • Fundraising or community relations experience (ideally, both)
  • Familiarity with land managers, land-use issues, and trends
  • Strong computer skills — e.g. website & social media tools, CRM software
  • Experience with public speaking with strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (occasional evenings, weekends and holidays)
  • Enthusiastic trail user and frequent mountain biker — a high bike skill level is not required but a multi-year history of mountain biking and passion for TAMBA’s mission is required

Position Details

  • Competitive Salary (> $60k/yr), amount to be based on experience
  • Location: South Lake Tahoe, California, with Tahoe regional travel
  • Full-time salaried, exempt position, hours vary as necessary
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave
  • As Executive Director leads organization toward increased funding, Board of Directors can support creation of additional benefits (Health Insurance, Retirement Plans) for full-time employees
  • Targeted Start Date: October 2021
