Every month, we’ll be highlighting a TAMBA Trail Legend – a volunteer, donor, or community partner who’s gone above and beyond to support TAMBA’s work. None of the awesome things we achieve would be possible without the Trail Legends who work with us.
This month, we’re celebrating expert trail builder and long-standing TAMBA Crew Leader, Jeff Coulter.
Jeff Coulter is one of TAMBA’s most experienced volunteer Crew Leaders. He has led well over 100 volunteer days for TAMBA and has been integral to planning and constructing of some of the basin’s most beloved trails, including Stanford Rock, Kaspian Rim, Lakeview, Ocelot, and Tunnel Creek. Among his many talents as a trail builder, Jeff is well known for his keen eye for alignment and flow. The trails he’s built are fun for both climbing and descending, with each turn flowing effortlessly into the next.

Jeff is a retired engineer and brings his decades of engineering experience to trail building. He excels in teaching others about the process of sustainable trail building and takes the time to explain each step of the build process from alignment to subtle tread shaping.
Despite his wealth of knowledge and experience, Jeff is a humble, compassionate leader, as anyone who’s been lucky enough to work with him knows. His weekday trail build days have attracted a following of dedicated volunteers who build amazing trail. This year, Jeff has played a key role in construction of the Road 73 Bypass project in Tahoe City. He also led the construction of another 0.75 mile on Kaspian Rim that is now open and rideable.

In addition to leading many of TAMBA’s major trail projects, Jeff also volunteers for Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue and Truckee Trails. In the winter, you’ll find Jeff backcountry skiing, skate skiing, and resort skiing.
Thank you Jeff for your leadership and amazing trails! We are grateful for your hard work, dedication to excellence, and commitment to Tahoe trails.
