Every month, we’ll be highlighting a TAMBA Trail Legend – a volunteer, donor, or community partner who’s gone above and beyond to support TAMBA’s work. None of the awesome things we achieve would be possible without the Trail Legends who work with us.
This month, in the wake of another awesome Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival, we’re celebrating community champion and festival co-creator, Brian Levy.
As the founder and owner of bar and restaurant The Divided Sky, Brian has helped foster the tight-knit sense of community in Meyers since opening the bar over 20 years ago. In 2013, he took this one step further by delivering the first ever Meyers Mountain Bike Festival alongside other community members. The inaugural festival was held in The Divided Sky’s parking lot and continued to thrive there for a number of years. As the popularity of the festival grew, it morphed into the Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival and moved down the road to its current location in Tahoe Paradise Park.
TAMBA Advisory Board member and former Board Chair, Nils Miller, has worked with Brian to produce the Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival since its inception: “Way back in 2013–just a couple of years after TAMBA’s rebirth—Brian Levy combined his experience running The Divided Sky (an iconic bar/restaurant in Meyers) with his passion for mountain biking to produce the first Meyers Mountain Bike Festival with help from key members of the Meyers community. From the start all proceeds were donated to TAMBA to help build our trails, and as this event grew—and became the Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival—the community roots remained strong. Thank you Brian for helping create this annual celebration of our trails and community!”
Eleven years on, Brian continues to play a leading role in the planning and execution of the Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival. His passion, knowledge, and invaluable insights ensure the character of the festival remains true to celebrating the local Tahoe community and trails. While the popularity of the festival continues to grow year-on-year, Brian ensures local businesses and partners continue to be represented in all aspects of the event. He works tirelessly to ensure the two-day event runs smoothly and puts huge amounts of time and energy into ensuring no detail is overlooked.
The Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival would not be the thriving community celebration it is today without Brian’s vision and contributions, and TAMBA is incredibly grateful for his unwavering support for Tahoe trails.
