Hello TAMBA Friends,

Public Land Sale Blocked – Thanks to You!

Thank you for speaking up for public lands and Tahoe trails!
We’re thrilled to share that the proposed sale of public lands has been blocked—a major win made possible by thousands of mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts like you. Your voices were heard, and your advocacy made a real impact.

What’s Next

While this is a huge step forward for our favorite Lake Tahoe trails, the fight isn’t over.
Senator Mike Lee—who introduced the original proposal—has signaled plans to revise the bill. The revised version may exclude Forest Service lands and reduce the amount of BLM land involved, but public land remains at risk.

We must stay vigilant to ensure that any new proposals truly protect access to the trails and natural areas we all love. TAMBA will keep you informed and ready to act.

Edit, June 26:  Senator Mike Lee introduced new legislation to sell off public lands through the Senate budget reconciliation bill that is expected to get a vote as soon as this week.

His previous attempt to dispose of up to 3.3 million acres was rejected by the Senate parliamentarian earlier this week, with the backdrop of unprecedented outreach from Americans of all stripes urging lawmakers to reject public land sales. Despite this, his office has pivoted to introduce a narrower set of sales focused more closely on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands.

“IMBA will continue to oppose these public land sale proposals, which do not follow the established public process. Any proposed sale should protect recreation and should include the opportunity for public review and public comment,” said Todd Keller, Director of Government Affairs at the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). “Given recent investments in policies that support mountain biking, such as the Biking on Long Distance Trails Act and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Advancement Act, these proposals threaten not only our trails but the mountain bike community’s milestone accomplishments.”
